  • Insurance [Black Jack]
The option to place an additional side bet of up to half of the original bet. Insurance is offered only when the dealer's up-card is an ace. With this side bet you are basically wagering that the dealer's second card is worth 10 points, hence he has a Blackjack or natural. If you're wrong and the dealer doesn't hold a Blackjack, you lose the side bet. The game then continues in the usual fashion, you finish out the rest of your hand. However, if the dealer does hold a Blackjack, your insurance bet pays out 2:1. The net result is that you break even, unless you also have a Blackjack. In this case your hand ties the dealer's. You keep your main bet and win 2:1 from the insurance bet, which is half of your main bet. The overall outcome is that your Blackjack wins 1:1, which yields the same result as if you had chosen Even Money.

Let's say your main bet was $20 and you placed a $10 insurance bet. Both you and the dealer hold a Blackjack. Your $20 main bet results in a tie (no one wins or loses), but you win 2:1 on the $10 insurance bet, giving you another $20. Those $20 from the side bet are the same as a 1:1 payoff of the $20 main bet. A standard Blackjack payoff of 3:2 would have won you $30.

  • Irregular Playing Patterns
This generally refers to what is known as "bonus abuse". Online casinos offering bonuses usually require the player to play a certain number of spins/hands, or wager a certain amount of cash to qualify for the bonus (also see playthrough requirements). Irregular betting patterns are signs of players who are not playing regularly (i.e. to win money) but are trying to meet those requirements with minimal risk of losing money by employing various strategies in order to claim the bonuses.
