D'Alembert Roulette Strategy
Learn how to properly apply the D'Alembert Roulette betting System (also called montant et demontant - from French, meaning upwards and downwards).
The D'Alembert System is a progression betting system that can be used for any even money bets and is much less volatile than the martingale and other more aggressive progression startegies.
Admittedly, this system is slower in recovering from losses and building winnings, but on the other hand the player can sustain a much longer string of losses before losing his session bankroll and the risk of hitting the table limit is much lower.
The D'Alembert system is based around the theory of "nature seeking equilibrium". If one outcome begins to dominate then it's more likely that the opposite outcome will prevail next time. It works when you get an even number of wins and losses for the same betting sequence/session.
How to play with the D'Alembert system?
Bets are raised one unit after each losing bet and lowered one unit after each winning bet. The sequence and amount raised or lowered can be varied to suit particular games and odds.
You could make your first bet $1. If you lost this bet then your next wager would be $2. If you won your first bet then your next bet would still be $1, as you can't go any lower. If you hit zero, then you should end your session or start again from the beginning with the initial betting amount.

In this example you have more losing bets at the beginning, but the crucial factor is how many winning bets you have further down the line. From a statistically point of view your chances of winning increase with every losing bet. In this sequence you break even although your losses outnumber your winning bets - it all depends on at what stage you lose and win. Here you have lost 5 times and only won 3 times, but still have not lost a dime. As you can see in the table, the last two higher wagers contributed significantly to your total win and made up for the previous losses.
Create your own sequence of winning and losing bets
This table gives you an overview of all the possible bet situations, so that you can check in advance how certain combinations of wins and losses affect the outcome of your betting session. It helps you to decide on your initial betting amount and to lower the risk of losing too much money. You can find out how much money you need to bet in order to win a certain amount and what losses to excpect.

- Stable and Simple: The D'Alembert gambling system has similarities with the Fibonacci system, in that it's reasonably stable for alternating results, but unlike the Fibonacci line, even a mild consecutive losing streak results in a loss. One of the D'Alambert strategy's most striking advantages is its simplicity. Bets can be tracked as you play and there's no need to write anything down. Also, this system doesn't chase losses, it gets them back slowly, always certain that in the long run the results will be 50/50.
- Small, consistent wins: Like all negative progression gambling systems, a long streak of losing bets can cause moderate losses. This strategy can help to manage small bankrolls and is usually applied by beginners. If you're a medium-risk gambler and want the chance to make consistent wins without the threat of huge losses, then the D'Alembert strategy will suit your style.
